Project Strong and the Fit for Life program is strength and conditioning program for older adults. As we get older, an important part of staying healthy is staying active and keeping the body strong. One of the biggest components of living independently is lower body strength and balance. The Fit for Life program is a functional strength and conditioning program that works to make things like picking up groceries and getting up from gardening easier.  It allows us to continue to enjoy all our recreational pursuits like skiing, snowshoeing, cycling, paddling and hiking.  Participants engage in a program that carries over into every aspect of their life.

Health History

All participants go through a review of health history (PAR-Q+) before starting any exercise program.  This can be done over the phone or in person.

Fundamentals Training Program

You must complete the Fundamentals Training Program before joining the group class program.  During these sessions, you will work with me to learn the philosophy, methodology and core movements needed to be successful in the group classes.  This is our time to get to know you and address any health and mobility issues, along with any other concerns.

I work with any health-care providers to ensure all activity is safe and reasonable. Doctors are often very happy to hear that their patients want to be more active, which helps them improve quality of life and positively affect health markers including blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight. If your doctor has made recommendations about your activities, please let me know.  I always defer to your health care provider and work closely with doctors, physiotherapists, and athletic trainers to ensure you’re getting all the attention you need.

The Fundamentals Program can be completed in one of two ways:

Option 1: -Private or Semi-Private
Three private training or semi-private training sessions (2 people max).  Here you will receive individual attention and if there are health issues or concerns this offers a more private way to work through them.

Appointments are scheduled on an individual basis.  Currently appointment times are filling up quickly and you may have to wait a few weeks to get started.

Cost:  $200 + taxes = $226.00 (3 private or semi private sessions)

Option 2: Small Group Sessions
Small group sessions – no more than 4 participants total.  Here you will work in a small group training setting to learn the philosophy, methodology and core movements needed to be successful in the group classes.  This is our time to get to know you and address any health and mobility issues along with any other concerns.

*4 sessions/4 people max
*$160 + taxes = $180.80

Fit For Life Group Classes

Once you have completed the Fundamentals Training you are then eligible for Fit for Life group classes.

Group classes offer a fun and supportive community with everyone working at their own level and ability. Classes include a skill-based warm-up to prepare the body for the work ahead.  There is a strength and or skill focus and a then a workout that incorporates strength exercises and challenges our metabolic energy systems.  Mobility drills are included throughout the program to improve joint mobility and function.

The Fit for Life group classes are offered Monday and Wednesday at Crossfit Indestri from 10:45-11:45am.

Classes are also offered Tuesday and Wednesday at the National Ski Academy.  Times for this location vary from week to week.  A weekly schedule of class times and locations is emailed out to participants weekly.

Private or Semi-Private Personal Training

Private or semi-private Personal Training is available.  Depending on specific needs, goals and your schedule this is a great alternative to the group class.

Private, in-home training is also another option for some individuals.   Rates vary depending on the number of participants and length of each training session and location.
