Project Strong is a strength and conditioning program for older adults (50+). As we get older, an important part of staying healthy is staying active and keeping the body strong. One of the biggest components of living independently is lower body strength and balance. The Fit for Life program is a functional strength and conditioning program that works to make things like picking up groceries and getting up from gardening easier. It allows us to continue to enjoy all our recreational pursuits like skiing, snowshoeing, cycling, paddling and hiking. Participants engage in a program that carries over into every aspect of their life.
Health History
All participants go through a review of health history (PAR-Q+) before starting any exercise program. This can be done over the phone via Zoom or in person.

Fundamentals Training Program
You must complete the Fundamentals Training Program before joining Group Classes. During these sessions, you will work with me to learn the philosophy, methodology and core movements needed to be successful in the class setting. This is our time to get to know each other. The program consists of three private training sessions where you will receive individual attention and we can address any health and mobility issues, along with any other concerns you may have.
I work with any healthcare providers to ensure all activity is safe and reasonable. Doctors are often very happy to hear that their patients want to be more active, which helps them improve quality of life and positively affect health markers including blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight. If your doctor has made recommendations about your activities, please let me know. I always defer to your healthcare provider and work closely with doctors, physiotherapists, and athletic trainers to ensure you’re getting all the attention you need.
Appointments are scheduled on an individual basis. Currently appointment times are limited and you may have to wait a few weeks to get started.
Group Classes
Once you have completed the Fundamentals Training you are then eligible for Group Classes.
Group classes offer a fun and supportive community with everyone working at their own level and ability. Classes include a skill-based warm-up to prepare the body for the work ahead. There is a strength and or skill focus and a then a workout that incorporates strength exercises and challenges our metabolic energy systems. Mobility drills are included throughout the program to improve joint mobility, function and balance.
The group classes are offered at the National Ski Academy in Collingwood.
A weekly schedule of class times and locations is emailed out to participants every Friday and the full schedule can be found here.
Private or Semi-Private Personal Training
Private or semi-private Personal Training is available. Depending on specific needs, goals and your schedule this is a great alternative to the group class.
